在金融衍生品市场上，英镑兑欧元略微走高，上涨0.11%，至1.1946。但英镑兑美元走弱，下跌0.218%，至1.3068，交易员们在等待今晚美联储9月份联邦公开市场委员会会议纪要的发布，该次会议是美联储本轮周期内首次降息，幅度为50个基点。

更重要的是，最新的美国消费者价格指数（CPI）通胀数据将于明天发布，这将影响未来的利率下调。上周美国就业数据强于预期，削弱了市场对11月再降息25个基点的预期。

伦敦股市收盘时，蓝筹股富时100指数上涨0.7%，至8243点，较广泛的富时250指数上涨0.9%，至20822点。

在蓝筹股的变动中，兼并与收购（M&A）是焦点。纸张和包装公司Mondi上涨4.0%，此前该公司宣布以6.34亿欧元的企业价值收购德国、比荷卢三国和英国的施马赫包装公司的瓦楞转换和实心板业务，该交易将通过Mondi现有资金来源融资。

但矿业公司力拓下跌2.3%，此前该公司确认计划以67亿美元的全现金交易收购美国公司Arcadium Lithium，从而成为全球第三大锂生产商。

房屋建筑商Vistry在周二发出利润预警后连续第二天下跌，本日下跌2.0%，因德意志银行分析师下调了该公司的股票目标价，股价承受进一步压力。

然而，在周二因水务监管机构Ofwat的打压而下跌后，联合公用事业公司（United Utilities）上涨1.4%，受益于RBC Capital分析师从“行业表现”上调为“超越行业表现”的评级。

在蓝筹股之外，客户互动软件供应商Netcall上涨1.8%，此前该公司公布截至2024年6月30日的全年收入增长8.4%，税前利润猛增58%。
